Gamma-butyrolactone(CAS 96-48-0) we call it GBL for short, also can be called ?-Butyrolactone, is an important organic synthesis intermediate  which can be used to synthesize 2-pyrrolidone(CAS 616-45-5), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(CAS 872-50-4), 2-Acetylbutyrolactone(CAS 517-23-7) and so on.It is also used as a solvent in lotions and some polymers.GBL has been found in extracts from samples of unadulterated wines.This finding indicates that GBL is a naturally occurring component in some wines and may be present in similar products.
