A step in the hole could cause "hang up" and possible breakage of wedge. Drill steel is available which is just long enough to permit drilling entire hole in one operation. If many holes are drilled by different operators,the hydraulic splitter operator should check each hole with a ruler or broomstick to make sure that hole is deep enough and free from hard obstructions.
